Beating the Gas Price Increases

gas prices
Bill Black asked:

Predictions of recessions and down-turns or up-turns are almost daily by now and many of us are becoming de- sensitized to it. Some of us know things are getting worse, foreclosure may be looming; others just find that with gas prices, food prices and other necessities increasing we are short of cash.

Everywhere, people are feeling the pinch. if you are one of the unlucky millions that is trying to avoid foreclosure, it will be essential for you to find ways to economize. Also keep a note on your fridge of the agencies that are set up to help in mortgage emergencies.

The most well known of these groups are : Project Lifeline, Hope Now, the Federal help line at 1-888-995-HOPE and NeighborWorks America. All these addresses are found on the Internet. All of these groups can help you by offering resources and usually by talking to your lender for you.

It is perhaps helpful to keep getting reminders that things could get worse, but is there anything we can do about it? Some people take the attitude that optimism pays off and others prefer to hedge their bets and start pulling in their belts.

No-one can dispute that the price of gas is affecting those of us who are working on a budget. This is one area where you really can save noticeable dollars. There are several ideas that could be adopted to save gas money.

Some households are trying the ‘back to the fifties’ routine, when there was only one car in use and sharing the vehicle was the norm. In some routines it can work better than you may think. For instance if one of you has to be at work really early, and one of you is working flexible hours, try and change your flexible hours to suit.

Another very feasible plan is for one of you to drop the other off. The passenger then walks the last part of the way to work; in these days of lighter mornings it not only saves gas money, but it could save medical bills too.

A ten minute drive to work can often represent a thirty minute walk – if you count all the parking hassles and warming up the engine etc. Go to bed a half hour sooner and get up earlier and walk!

Become more efficient in the kitchen and notice the food supply. This means that when you are coming home from work you can pick up the milk or bread that is running out. This saves you from driving down to the corner store later in the evening.

Approach a neighbor who has a child at the same school and ask if they would like to alternate pick ups from school with you. They might be visibly relieved! You may even find more car drivers ask to join you and you need only pick up once a week!

Some cities have monthly bus passes and if you are senior or a student they may even offer concessions. If you get a bus timetable you may be pleasantly surprised to find that the buses fit your routine. It can also be more relaxing to sit on a bus and read for 20 minutes than drive to work whilst yelling at other (useless) drivers!

In what other ways can money be saved? Well, some of these suggestions may make you wince but here they are anyway!

Summer is coming and we all watch less TV at this time of the year. If you downgrade your cable programs by one level you will save quite a lot of cash. (If you think that the teenagers will really complain, ask them first if they would like to pay the extra amount, in advance, each month.)

Well, now that you have the teenagers all riled up, let’s have a go at the little kids. Breakfast cereal is inordinately expensive and it has the same white flour in it as a slice of toast that is one tenth the price; they can drink the milk out of a glass.

Here is one money-saver that will make all of us wince: stop using your cell phone for anything above your contracted rate of use. The best way to do this is by leaving it at home or shut off the ring tone. Another thing to leave at home is your credit card. Instead keep a ten dollar bill in your purse or wallet. Have you ever had a spontaneous dire emergency where ten dollars wasn’t enough?

Water Powered Car Plans – Would You Want to Beat the Gas Price?

Alexandre Frings asked:

Water working as a fuel… isn’t the very idea amazing. But if you take out some time to do extensive research work, you will be astonished to find that several individuals have designed water powered car plans at different points of time. Water was considered as a life saver. But very soon it will be regarded as a cost effective substitute for petroleum and other automotive fuels.

A question may arise in your mind, that if so many people have experimented with water powered cars, then why are we still making use of petroleum based fuel? Providing a relevant answer to the question might not be possible at this point of time. But we have to keep in mind that new ideas need time to get accepted. Water powered car plans are a miracle in itself. Lack of acceptance is a major drawback in its implementation procedure.

In the early nineties a Bolivian inventor acquired a patent for his unique creation: Pacheco Bi- Polar Auto electric Hydrogen Generator. The inventor had shown it practically that his water powered engine can run cars, flashlight, lawn mower and even a boat. He had also gone to the extent of providing energy to an entire house by his water powered gadget.

What actually happens in a water powered car is very simple. Water is broken into its components viz. hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen part is used to provide energy to the required device. This is neither a myth nor a lie. Water powered generators can make things work and provide you with the required energy.

We are facing a crunch to find substitute fuels. But the situation can be tackled if this plan is implemented. Remember the way, the creation of Wright brothers were signed off as hoax. But at last the truth had to be accepted that the two bicycle repairmen have developed the first aircraft of the world. Similarly water powered car plans will get their acceptance in the near future.

Would you want to save thousands a year? hundreds every month? I bet you do not want to change your life style and worry about gas price every day. Visit Water Powered Car Plans – Would You Want To Beat the Gas Price? and discover how people have done it.

Compare Gas Prices: British Gas Raises Prices

gas prices
Mark Lauterwein asked:

In the first quarter of 2008 British Gas, the major gas supplier in the UK, increased prices to the tune of 15%. The company attributed these increases to rising wholesale costs that needed to be passed on to end users to maintain profit margins.

Centrica, who own the British Gas brand, gave forewarning of the increases before Christmas. It is anticipated that the average household fuel bill will increase by £130 annually as a result. Last year the company actually reduced gas prices by 20% (and electricity prices by 17%). In this way British Gas won back a good proportion of its old customer base.

In order to supply some good news to offset the damaging publicity caused by these new rises the company has proposed a programme of installing free home insulation for the over 70s. It is unlikely that this measure will be sufficient to prevent customers from wanting to compare gas prices. After all, the gas may flow through the same pipes but there are in fact at least a dozen suppliers selling the service. Not all the names are as familiar as British Gas but in view of this competition it seems sensible to compare gas prices.

In response to the increase in prices, British Gas has called vigorously for the freeing up of the energy market. They hope that such a move would uncouple gas prices from oil prices: a connection that is always a driver when gas prices go up. Of course, many customers might also recall the millions spent on advertising by British Gas and think this money may have been better spent improving service. For anyone harbouring such thoughts it certainly makes sense to compare gas prices.

Help With Higher Gas Prices

gas prices
Roy E. Klienwachter asked:

Driving into work this morning I noticed the gas prices have jumped again to $1.30 a litre or $5.90 a gallon, Canadian.

Like most days when I notice the price has jumped, I just shrug my shoulders and declare them “bustards.” I think to myself surely the government must be aware of this atrocity, why aren’t they doing anything? Then I remember how much they are making on each litre as taxes-a whopping 30%. I guess they are not in too much of a hurry to give up this windfall.

What really triggered this article is a news cast. An oil representative when asked about the rising cost of oil said, “People are will to pay the higher prices.” I heard this same statement from another oil company rep. years ago when we had the conversion from leaded to unleaded gas. They left something out of the gas and were charging us higher prices. Once again when asked the response was, “people are willing to pay higher prices for it.”

Nothing triggers me faster than to hear this kind of arrogance. What they are really saying is-no one is blowing up our gas stations and refineries, so they must be happy with paying the higher prices. Now, I understand cost and profit as I have been in business all my life. However, when I see the outrageous profits from large corporations such as gas companies, banks, and software companies-it’s easy to see they are simply charging too much for their services. They will come up with all sorts of excuses, and none of them explains the outrageous profits. Costs of business always come out of gross profit before the humungous surplus or net profit is realized.

I am not fooled by their explanations. The anger I feel is the pat answer we get, “People are willing to pay.”

In the case of the gas companies who seem to be in bed with each other, there is no where to turn as an alternative. If you don’t want to pay for the higher prices you can’t go to the competition because there isn’t any. WE ARE NOT WILLING TO PAY and we are not willing to blow up gas stations and refineries to demonstrate our dissatisfaction.

There will come a point when the conglomerates push too hard and people will start to react. By that time they will have accumulated a very large surplus and will give back a few cents a litre to pacify the rebels.

Now the company executives are correct in saying people are willing to pay because they have not reacted in ways the companies can understand and appreciate. The real issue is with the consumer not the companies. Consumers have so much power and control over these companies but they have given up their power to governments and regulatory bodies who have a vested interest in higher prices.

The simply truth is, if you don’t want to pay high prices for gas and other products-don’t buy them. In a very short period of time the companies will be giving away their products. No customers-no products to sell-no business. As far as the oil companies go, even if everyone stopped using their petroleum driven machines for just one day a week, I suspect it would bring them to their knees in a very short time.

The balance of power has always been with the consumer to control prices. However, it is the waist of these products that create a greater demand for the products, and the law of supply and demand (greed) comes into effect. I suspect there are very few people who could not restructure their lives to not drive one day a week and make it an ongoing way of life (keep up the pressure). Companies will react to consumer pressure, but they also know that consumers will not keep up the pressure for very long-high prices are soon forgotten after the temporary relief has been dribbled out by the money grabbers.

Although it sounds like I have written this article to attack oil companies-it’s not really why I created this article. Sure, I am really pissed off by the arrogance of company executives, but I really wanted to point out the wonderful opportunity their greed presents to you.

Somewhere along the way we have convinced ourselves we need their products, and we have structured our lives around them. The industrial revolution has made us slaves to buying and wasting and it is catching up with us. Can you really afford to pay high prices for gas? Do you really need to pay for overpriced software and operating systems which don’t even work correctly? Do you need to pay $50 a person at a fancy restaurant for food and drink plus 20% for the tip? Has the good life really made you happy-that is the bottom line?

The opportunity I was talking about is here, now. You can take back your power, freedom and individuality by reacting strongly to these wrong doings. The reward you will receive will be the satisfaction of doing something, anything, and encouraging others to follow your example.

It is also OK to do nothing if you are happy to pay too much for your products and services. However, if the price gouging is increasing your stress levels-take action. It could be as simple as forwarding this article to another-creating your own articles. You could designate one day a week you will not consume gas or oil which would make a huge impact when others follow. This article is not about bringing the money changers to their knees but about motivating you to do something positive about something you don’t like. It is about being powerful and demonstrating that power in your actions. And it is also about motivating others to do the same.

In the computer age it can all happen in a heartbeat. I have written this article and sent it out in my newsletter. Hundreds of thousands will read it on my site. I will forward it to over 400 article directories and to thousands of others on my email list. The article will go around the world in one day many times. You can do similar things. And while you are doing these things, you must know it’s not about the oil companies or any other company-it is about you-it’s all about you. You are making a statement for your own satisfaction and good. As the now famous line goes, “I’m Mad as Hell and I Won’t take it Any Longer,” do something for a change.

Every day opportunities come your way and every day you pass them by. Every event that happens today and tomorrow in your life is a chance for you to say to the world-this is me, this is who I am-I’m making this statement-others will follow, trust me!

Just because an oil executive says “you are willing to pay higher prices” doesn’t mean you have to give your power to change that to them. If you are doing nothing when you hear such moronic statements-you are giving in to them-their statements become your new truth.

You don’t have to become and eco-terrorist and blow up refineries and gas stations. What you have to do is something that demonstrates positively that you do not agree with their statements-that does not include complaining or whining about it.

Now if you disagree with price gowging and rip offs, and you want to do something positive and if you agree with me-then forward or pass this article on to someone else. How simply is that-no effort on your part, yet it will create the outcome you desire. What you do in the next five minutes will irrefutably demonstrate to you where you stand on being a victim. Like many people you can choose to do nothing-there is nothing wrong with that if you can honestly live with it.

How do Oil Futures affect gas prices at the pump immediately?

gas futures
eric_5280 asked:

I understand that oil’s future contract is a financial contract that allows you to lock in today a price at which you’ll buy or sell oil in the future. What I don’t understand is how this affects immediate gas prices at the pump. If the contract is to lock in a rate for a point in the future, why would the cost be passed down to the consumer almost immediately?
I guess what I really want to know is this: the price of oil per barrel at a future date goes up..why would it impact the gas stations immediately? Oil future is for delivery at a future date, yet we see the hike at the gas stations immediately..is this how big oil companies make their record profit? they are passing on the cost of the oil immediately to the consumer when they don’t ahve to pay for the oil until a future date

Compare Gas Prices: Going Green Has Prices Going Up

Karl Bantleman asked:

The environment is a hot topic at the moment and everyone assumes that the new laws brought in to attempt to make the world a better place are a good thing. However, these laws and regulations are having a direct impact on energy companies and could go some way to describing the recent hike in prices.

Finding cheap electricity prices has been hard recently but this may not be all down to the companies. It is estimated by Europe’s energy companies that they need to spend £1.5 trillion on upgrading power networks but many of these proposed changes have had to be cancelled due to regulation uncertainty.

It has been suggested that companies are fixing the market to increase prices and improve their profitability. It will be important for these companies to increase their revenues because from 2013, all companies will have to pay for the pollution they emit. It is because of all these laws that mean energy companies have to try and increase their profits.

When customers compare gas prices they will have recently seen that rates will have risen, although the companies can not be totally blameless, there are external factors that are having an effect on prices.

The projects that the energy companies have on the table are taking too long to be approved due to new laws and legislations, these projects would help reduce prices and make finding cheap electricity prices easier. However, it seems unlikely that these laws will be relaxed so it seems inevitable that customers are going to see a rise in prices.

Although finding cheap electricity prices may be harder at the moment, shopping online offers the best chance to compare gas prices and find the best deals around.
