Gas prices?

babylester28 asked:

We should refuse to buy gas from the largest company, Exxon/Mobil. If noone buys from them, they’ll be forced to lower their prices, and then to compete other gas companies will have to lower their prices as well. If enough people participate, it could work.

Unfortunately I live in a country with the worst mass transit system in the world (US). Unless I was to get a natural gas car and get the filling equipment installed at my house, I will have to continue to use gas.

The independent truckers could not get organize. So how do you think this will get organize? Face it, it will not work. Unless everyone buys a hybrid car today this will never work. Gas will continue to rise. Sad but true.

America as a whole needs to come together and just say, we will NOT DRIVE for an entire week. If this means that many of us can’t get to work, then even better! Businesses will be forced to close then. It’s the only way to wake Congress up!! They already plan to halt sending excess oil to the reserves starting in July. But, I’m not sure how much difference that will make. They need to raise the interest rates again for starters, lower the federal gas tax, and use the extra money wasted in space research and from their extinct animal funds to make up the difference! The American economy will NOT improve Unless gas prices go down to at least $2.99/gallon again! THIS IS A FACT!

NO IT COULD NOT. YOUR PLAN IS FLAWED. IT DEFIES ALL LOGIC.

A – you boycott Exxon/Mobil. How? Most gas stations in the USA are independently owned. Ma and Pa’s main street gas station is just as likely to have Exxon/Mobil fuel as the Exxon/Mobil franchises. Most stations in the USA are not franchised. How can you tell where they get their gas from? Many stations shop around to buy their gasoline. Once the price on Exxon dropped, why would an independent station pay more for Shell or Texaco? When, they could get it cheaper from Exxon? MAKES NO SENSE.

B – Even if you could identify which stations had Exxon in their pumps, you would be foolish to pass it up for two reasons.

i – boycotting one company, will only cause a run (raise demand) of its competitors. Look at Honda and Toyota. When they first came out, they were cheaper than Ford, GM, Chrysler. But, as demand for Japanese cars rose because of quality and desireability, what happened to price (demand) for American Cars – IT DROPPED. Now Toyota, Chevy, Subaru and other Asian and European cars are significantly more expensive than American cars. Why? Because, there was a run on foreign vehicles. Imagine gasoline to be the same. There are only a handful of major oil companies – like the auto industry!!! If you lower demand for one or a few brands, the others will have to raise their prices to keep from selling out.

ii – EVEN IF YOUR PLAN WORKED IN LOWERING THE PRICE OF EXXON, IT WOULD BACKFIRE. As. the price of Exxon gasoline drops at stations, YOU REALLY EXPECT AMERICANS TO DRIVE PAST THOSE PUMPS TO PAY A PREMIUM FOR SHELL, TEXACO, BP, etc. That would be foolish. Why pay more for the same product? At the same time you will start accusing the competitors of Exxon of price gauging!!! So, next you will point the finger at a different company. All that will do is allow Exxon to match its competitors and you are just switching villans.

The only way to cut into oil company profits is to lower demand. All the gimmicks do not work. If Americans are sick of oil companies raking in BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN PROFITS, USE LESS OIL.

Okay, common sense. We dont buy gas from them, other companies sieze the chance to raise prices on us so that everythings even and we have no choice but to pay EVEN MORE for gas. And idk about you, but up here in detroit, gas is literally 4 dollars a gallon.
