What do y’all think of this as a way to lower gas prices?

well for one thing the people who own the gas stations make the prices and where i live most of then raise the price 50 cents over what it is sold for so for everygallon its costing me 50 cents ovre what it should be
how about reducing the high taxes on gas (around $0.50 a gallon in many areas) build more refineries (cant make more gas with out refineries and the US hasn’t build any in many many years) and invest in research to make other products such as ethanol more efficient and practical.
can this wait till after bush leaves office?
I think that everybody should on one given day, turn off their vehicles where they are at one moment. At this time, everyone go to the bus station, railways,etc. and prevent anyone to use the public transportation. If we do this for one or two days, it will cripple this nation. We aren’t getting any help at all. Bob
i agree i don’t care for government control either but i cant budget my income when i don’t have any ideal what a gallon of gas will cost an hour from now
Well, everytime the government tries to control prices, they go up. Remember the price controls on gas in the Seventies? First there were shortages, then prices went way up. A free market economy is always the most efficient, cheapest system for delivering any product.
Speaking of efficiency, the fuel economy of the Prius does not warrant spending the extra money for one. The car will have worn out before the savings are realized. Then there are those pesky old batteries… Alternative fuel research is a great idea. Taxpayer dollars currently fund research at many fine universities around the country.
The government is mainly interested in preserving the status quo. From the entrenched bureaucrat to the senator stumping for re-election every 2 years, they are all about keeping their own hide in that fancy swivel chair. Don’t look to the government to save us. Private citizens with new ideas and their own self-confidence (like yourself) are who will solve this problem; in spite of the foot-dragging government.
